Beginner’s Feng Shui: Bedroom Decor

Feng shui, the Chinese art of improving any given space using particular colors, objects, and arrangements, is touted for its positive effects.  What better place to begin experiencing the benefits of feng shui than one’s own bedroom?

While feng shui itself is an extensive science, and the core knowledge requires years of study, anyone can make a number of improvements to their bedroom by following some simple guidelines.  And while the theories behind these guidelines may be ancient and have spiritual roots, they also appeal to common sense.

For example, one’s bedroom shouldn’t be filled with electronics.  Exercise equipment, televisions, and computers disrupt the flow of healing energy, according to feng shui theory.  Removing them will reduce distractions from the intended purposes of the room–relaxation, sleep, dreaming, and intimacy.  When choosing art  for the bedroom, focus on images that represent positive goals and feelings.  Although a piece of art that incorporates sadness may be aesthetically pleasing, it will also negatively affect one’s rest and dreams.  Bedroom lighting must also be considered carefully.   Being able to adjust the level of light in one’s bedroom according to mood and circumstance is the best option, using dimmers, or having multiple sources of light using lamps, or candles.
