Electric Wizard’s Dopethrone Album Crushes All the Competition in Ungodly Heavy Sound

One of the most, if not the absolute most, heavy bands of all time has to be Electric Wizard. This band from the UK delivers a crushingly low sound and anguished vocals that are hard to compare with any other group playing today. You absolutely risk ruining any hi-fi stereo equipment that you blast them album over because it is that mind blowingly heavy. As far as sludge, doom and stoner metal bands go, Electric Wizard basically lays them all to waste with this one album, not to mention the rest of their offerings.

The spacey and bluesy elements of this album really do bring the gravity of the sound and lyrical content into sharper focus. Songs like Funeralopolis and I, The Witchfinder are nearly pop sounding in some respects and while this would typically annoy me from any other band, with Electric Wizard it’s put together like magic and works perfectly. More than anything else, this is music that you don’t just sip like good wine, you literally swim in it. It’s a hurricane of sound that you can lose yourself in without any problem and that makes it excellent music to work to or do anything else you need your mind and hands to do but want some background for. Many words could describe this album, but “perfect” works best for me.
